Here's a small glimpse of philanthropy events we've contributed to over the years.
Coronas for Cojones
“Coronas for Cojones” is a fun and meaningful event that brings people together to raise awareness for testicular cancer and men’s health. The name is a clever mix of “Coronas,” the beer served during the event, and “cojones,” which is Spanish slang for testicles—tying perfectly into the cause. Usually held in April during Testicular Cancer Awareness Month, the event takes place at Gallettes, a popular college bar here in Tuscaloosa. Students and locals show up for $2.00 Coronas, live music, crawfish, raffles, and cool T-shirts, with all the money raised going to organizations like the American Cancer Society and LIVESTRONG. It’s grown a lot over the years and has raised tens of thousands of dollars.
Launched by Joe Azar, a University of Alabama alum and testicular cancer survivor, it quickly gained momentum thanks to Phi Gam and strong support from the Tuscaloosa community. What started as a small, local fundraiser has grown into a widely recognized event with a powerful message. Last year alone, it raised over $25,000 and stood out for its bold name, fun atmosphere, and meaningful mission. It’s much more than just a college fundraiser—Coronas for Cojones encourages young men to take their health seriously and creates a sense of purpose and connection. With live music, drink specials, raffles, crawfish, and T-shirts, the event proves that spreading awareness can be just as exciting as it is impactful.

“This event [Coronas for Cojones] has been able to impact many people beyond Phi Gam and The University of Alabama. I am so thankful to be a part of this great event.”
5th Quarter
For over ten years, 5th Quarter has been a beloved service tradition here at The University of Alabama. After every home football game, as well as some basketball games and gymnastics events, volunteers from Phi Gam and Alpha Gamma Delta sorority stay behind to collect leftover food from skyboxes, club seating, and concession areas at Bryant–Denny Stadium and Coleman Coliseum. The donated items are packaged by the students and promptly delivered to the West Alabama Food Bank, where they’re distributed via local agencies to families in need throughout the community.
This past football season, great efforts from Phi Gam and Alpha Gam post-game waste into community outreach—promoting student volunteerism while simultaneously fighting food insecurity in west Alabama.
IFC Chili Fest
The annual IFC Chili Fest, hosted by The University of Alabama Interfraternity Council, is a spirited chili cook-off that brings together members of the Greek community for a great cause. Fraternities compete for the title of best chili while raising funds for important campus initiatives. Proceeds from the event support both the Interfraternity Council and UA Thrive, a mental health program that ensures students have accessible resources and support for their emotional well-being. In 2025 alone, the event raised over $24,000 to help advance this mission.
Last year, Phi Gam took home the top prize, earning the title of best chili on campus. In addition to bragging rights, the winning fraternity receives $5,000 from the total funds raised to donate to a charity of their choice—extending the impact of Chili Fest beyond campus and into the broader community.
